⚠️ Any 'Whisper Notes for Windows' Download Is Fake
We distribute Whisper Notes only through the Apple App Store and our own domain, whispernotes.app. If a website offers a Whisper Notes .exe, a 'PC version', or a 'Windows crack', it is not ours — treat it as malware. The same applies to Android: there is no Whisper Notes outside Apple platforms.
What Actually Works on Windows
You can absolutely run Whisper-based offline transcription on a Windows PC — just not with our app. These are the same tools we recommend in our offline speech-to-text guide:
- Buzz (free, open source) — the closest thing to Whisper Notes on Windows: a desktop app with a GUI that transcribes audio files locally using Whisper models. Start here if you don't want to touch a terminal.
- faster-whisper (free, open source) — a command-line Whisper implementation optimized for speed. The best option if you're comfortable with Python and want to script batch transcription.
- whisper.cpp (free, open source) — a lightweight C++ port of Whisper that runs on almost any hardware, including older PCs without a dedicated GPU.
Will There Be a Windows Version?
Honest answer: not yet, and we'd rather say that than ship something slow. Whisper Notes' speed comes from Apple's Neural Engine — the dedicated AI chip in every modern iPhone and Mac that lets local transcription run far faster than realtime. Windows PCs don't have one standard equivalent, so a Windows port today would be a slower, heavier product than the one we'd want our name on. If that changes, we'll build it. In the meantime, many PC users record and transcribe on the iPhone they already carry, then export the text wherever they work — or run Buzz on the PC itself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Whisper Notes app for Windows?
No. Whisper Notes is available for iPhone ($6.99 one-time, App Store) and Apple Silicon Macs (free 10,000-word trial, then $6.99 one-time). There is no Windows version and no announced release date.
I found a 'Whisper Notes for Windows' download — is it safe?
No. We only distribute through the Apple App Store and whispernotes.app. Any .exe, 'PC version', or 'crack' claiming to be Whisper Notes is fake and should be treated as malware.
What's the best offline transcription app for Windows?
For a free, open-source setup: Buzz if you want a graphical app, faster-whisper if you prefer the command line, or whisper.cpp for older hardware. All three run OpenAI's Whisper models locally on your PC — same model family Whisper Notes uses on Apple devices. Our offline speech-to-text guide walks through the setup.
