Whisper Notes for iOS technically worked on Mac, but the iPad-style interface felt wrong. So we rebuilt it from scratch for macOS. This is Mac Whisper Notes—a proper desktop app.
Rebuilt for Desktop
The iOS app technically ran on Mac, but users complained. Tiny windows, mobile UI, limited functionality. Not what a Mac app should be.
Mac Whisper Notes is designed specifically for macOS. Bigger screens, full keyboard support, better file handling. Actually uses your Mac's processing power the way it should.

What Works
1. Faster Offline Transcription
Mac Whisper Notes runs the Whisper AI model locally on your Mac. M-series chips handle it way faster than iPhone:
- • Much faster than the iOS version (a MacBook M2 processes 10 minutes of audio in ~63 seconds)
- • Same Whisper AI accuracy as the iPhone app
- • Supports 80+ languages, works completely offline
- • Your audio never leaves your Mac
2. Import Audio Files
Already have recordings? Just import them. No cloud uploads—processes everything locally:
- • Drag and drop audio files straight from Finder
- • Supports MP3, WAV, M4A, and most common formats
- • Transcribe meetings, lectures, interviews, or podcasts
- • No internet needed, no subscription required
- • Process hours of audio completely offline
Import audio files directly from your Mac for private, offline transcription
3. Timestamps
Every transcript includes timestamps. Super useful for long recordings:
- • Every paragraph gets its own timestamp
- • Click any timestamp to jump straight to that part of the audio
- • Perfect for editing hour-long meetings or lectures
- • Export your transcripts with timestamps included
